When Flaws Show Up

Turning Mistakes into Magic

Let’s talk about mistakes. You know, those moments where you trip up, and suddenly your brain decides to throw an unsolicited “I’m the worst” party. The kind of moment where a simple “oops” turns into a full-blown internal roast session.

Yesterday, I had one of those moments. I said something in a public forum that I thought was constructive—insightful even. But guess what? My words didn’t land the way I intended. They came off wrong—really wrong. Before I knew it, I was being called out as rude, someone lacking integrity. Ouch, right?

Now, here’s the funny thing: I know who I am. I know my values, my intentions, my heart. But even with that self-awareness, moments like these have this sneaky way of creeping in and poking at those tender spots. You know the ones—the parts of us that whisper, “See? You’re flawed. You’re not enough. Why did you even try?”

And if we’re not careful, those whispers can grow into full-blown narratives. Subconscious stories that tell us we’re broken, unworthy, or just plain not good enough. Stories that keep us playing small, afraid to show up, afraid to make waves.

But here’s the truth I had to remind myself of: mistakes don’t define us. How we respond to them does.

Did I wish I’d been more present, less frustrated, or approached the situation differently? Absolutely. But beating myself up over it wasn’t going to change anything. What does change things is staying curious, staying open, and—most importantly—staying kind to myself.

Because here’s the thing: we ALL mess up. Every single one of us. And those messy, imperfect moments? They’re just moments. They’re not the whole story of who we are.

The problem comes when we cling to those moments like they’re permanent truths about us. That’s where our subconscious loves to trap us—convincing us that our flaws are the final word on our worth. But holding onto that story is what keeps us stuck. It’s what keeps us afraid. Afraid to speak, to lead, to show up as the beautifully imperfect humans we are.

But let me remind you of something: the world doesn’t need your perfection. It needs your honesty. Your growth. Your humanity. Life isn’t about avoiding mistakes; it’s about learning from them.

And yesterday? That was my lesson: stay present. Because when we’re not, those old mental programs—the ones that tell us we’re not enough—creep in and try to run the show.

But here’s the good news: those programs? They’re not permanent. You can reset them. Yes, even the deep-rooted ones.

So, the next time you mess up (because you’re human, and it’s going to happen), take a breath and remind yourself: This isn’t the whole story. This is just a moment, and I get to choose what happens next.

You’re not broken. You’re YOU—perfectly imperfect. And honestly? That’s where your magic lives.

So, go easy on yourself. Take a deep breath. You’ve got this.
