So, picture this: me, standing at the base of a 14,000-foot mountain (yes, you read that right- 14,000 feet!), staring up at Pikes Peak like it's the world’s largest stairmaster. For reference, Colorado is home to 53 of these “14ers,” but this will be my very first. And, honestly, it all started with a classic “what if” conversation with my lifelong friend Demere. We’re both staring down the big 5-4, and instead of letting age boss us around, we said "screw it", let’s climb a mountain!
Now, let me be real for a second. Last fall, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s (think: hypothyroid on snooze mode), and of course menopause just had to join the party. Double whammy. My energy? Somewhere between “sloth on a Sunday” and “hibernating bear.” I used to be active, but this winter, I practically turned into a Netflix-and-couch ornament.
Now.... fast forward to today- I’m back outside, hiking my heart out, to hell with laying around! We’re talking 12–15 miles a week, climbing over 1,000 feet per hike. (Take that, inner sloth!) So, a few weeks ago, as I was huffing up this crazy 40+ degree incline, and I found me giving myself a pep talk. Stuff like, “You’ve got this. You’ve done this before. It’s all muscle memory.” And BAM! It hits me: Our subconscious is just that - muscle memory! I mean after all our brain is a muscle, right? Okay, not actually a muscle, but basically disguised as one.
Think about it- those 50,000 to 80,000 (subconscious) thoughts you have every day? Most of them (yeah 80%) are just reruns, playing on an old, dusty record player in your head. We believe those thoughts, buy into their nonsense, and before you know it, you’re living someone else’s script. You know exactly what I mean, if you have ever caught yourself muttering the same sentences your parents used to say to you as your teenage self is silently shaking your head. Getting stuck in “Blametropolis”- crying, yelling, watching your relationships get caught in the crossfire. You see the patterns, but stopping the madness? How?? Because you certainly can't manifest your way out of your own unconscious thinking....
Here’s the truth: Your conscious mind can spot the BS, but it’s your subconscious that’s running the show. So how do you get back to who you really are- before the world handed you its survival programming and conditioning? It starts with understanding your patterns. Noticing the old scripts. And then the kicker... learning how to reset your actual “truth" and not the truth you have been taught!
Ready to trade in your outdated record for something that actually sounds like you? I’m here, and I’d love to help. Grab a spot on my calendar, and let’s talk about how you can summit your own mountains- mental and otherwise.
Because, honestly, life’s too short to spend it stuck in your own head.
Yesterday, I had a conversation that stopped me in my tracks. A woman I had never met in person came to interview me for a podcast. We had connected through Facebook after she read my sto...
